Here’s your March update:
March is typically a quiet month on the French Riviera, making it a great time to visit. There’s still plenty to do (and -bonus- you won’t have to deal with crowds). Our favorites include:
Having lunch at a restaurant on the beach (yes, even in the off-season) and exploring Cannes.
Going for walks on picturesque seaside trails.
Hiking on the many beautiful nature trails (especially in the stunning Esterel region).
Trying out the incredible local golf courses.
Finding great deals at the flea, art and antique markets (before tourist prices kick in), like this one on weekends in the old port of Cannes:
Here are the month’s biggest events:
Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival (March 13 to April 7): This festival includes a number of concerts, lectures, performances and master classes in Monaco’s most iconic venues. Learn more about the festival.
Padel Competition (March 15 to 24): A1 Padel’s Monaco Master stage of the global series takes place in front of the Casino de Monte-Carlo. More information on the official website.
Monaco Ocean Week (March 18 to 23): Ocean Week is an annual event for protecting the oceans, held at the Monaco Yacht Club in both English and French. It includes meetings, debates and actions dedicated to the oceans, aiming to protect the marine environment, particularly in relation to global climate change. Find out more via the official program of events.
And several other events, which you can see in our events calendar (make sure to take a look at the ‘Exhibitions’ section for details about the Brigitte Bardot exhibition happening at the Citadelle of Villefranche-sur-Mer).
Looking for something authentic? Here’s where to find (and make your own) local products, from glass art to fragrances.
Thinking of renting (or buying) a villa this summer? Make sure to read our guide to villa rental scams (yes, even if you’re using a big agency), and the current state of the real estate market (spoiler: it’s a buyer’s market with the lowest # of sales in decades, but many sellers still have their heads in the clouds).
Crazy local history: This true story involves an evil king, a teenage prostitute who ends up being extremely wealthy, two of the most expensive villas in the entire world, and a Brazilian-turn-Monagasque woman whose wealthy husbands keep dying under mysterious circumstances. Read about it here.
Have a fun March!
